On January 1, 2025, Wang Yibo posted his first update of the New Year on his personal social media, sharing a photo of himself ice climbing and writing, “Happy New Year, climb the peak.”
Ice climbing is a sport developed from rock climbing and is mainly used to climb high mountains and snowy hills, usually involving natural ice, which is categorized into two types: icefalls and ice hangings.
It's worth noting that Wang Yibo is actually a novice when it comes to rock climbing. In August this year, Discovery Channel and Tencent Video co-produced the first outdoor exploration documentary, Exploring New Frontiers. In the program, Wang Yibo, under the guidance of world-class rock climber and mentor Liu Yongbang, successfully opened his own climbing route and made a successful ascent after a short period of skills training.
On December 31st, a reporter from Cover News interviewed Liu Yongbang and revealed the behind-the-scenes story of Wang Yibo's rock climbing.
Although Wang Yibo is a highly publicized public figure, behind the scenes he is a novice rock climber who started from scratch. However, Liu Yongbang was pleasantly surprised by his five days with Wang Yibo. He said, “Wang Yibo is an absolute miracle, [in rock climbing] he is a talent with potential.”
Liu Yongbang told reporters that Wang Yibo is smart and good at learning, and that many climbing skills can be mastered by teaching him just once. He mentioned, “When we taught him to tie rope knots, he started practicing the knots after eating two mouthfuls of bread and didn't even stop for the crew's meal.”
With Liu Yongbang's encouragement and Wang Yibo's persistence, he managed to summit Monkey Mountain, which is located in Longcun, Yangshuo, at an altitude of about 110 meters. Liu Yongbang noted that the difficulty of this mountain belongs to the 5.10A level, which is a great challenge for amateurs.
Known as a sportsman in his circle, Wang Yibo's personal hobbies include racing, skateboarding and street dancing, with a wealth of experience in crossover sports and close ties to major games.
According to News Morning News, Wang Yibo once said, “I think the meaning of life is to explore different things, find new feelings and see new scenery.”
