Wang Yibo films documentary "Guardians" to track pangolins
In July 2020, the Pangolin Conservation Research Center of the State Forestry and Grassland Administration was established. Four years later, the WildAid team filmed the documentary “The Protector Seekers” to systematically record pangolin conservation work. Wang Yibo joined the team, shaved his hair and wore an avalanche jacket, tracking pangolins in the wild mountainous areas. His dedicated work made the documentary the top-ranked nature documentary on the platform, attracting the public's attention.
The pangolin was once poached, and some people used its meat as game and its scales as medicine. Since 2020, the state has upgraded the pangolin to a first-class protected animal, and the Chinese Pharmacopoeia removed its entry. NPC deputy Zhang Bolei and others have called for the development of alternatives to endangered herbs and the protection of rare wildlife.
